The unique archive 8mm colour films featured in these videos are part of the extensive collection of shipping and
transport films of Bernard Cox, author and founder member of the Paddle Steamer
Preservation Society, Bernard Cox has written a number of authoritative books on passenger shipping. inciuding: "Paddle Steamers" and "Pleasure Steamers". He has appeared in television and radio interviews on this subject which has been his main hobby for the last 40 years.
Plato Video have combed through Bernard's prolific film output and edited together the very best sequences to
bring you two videos which form a tribute to over a century of regular paddle steamer excursions around the coast of Britain.
To put the wnole chronicle in perspective the production commences with a look at the Waverley, the last seagoing
passenger paddle steamer in tne UK. The production ends with a celebration of Waverley and Kingswear Castle, the last river-going paddle steamer, with sequences filmed inside the ships, ship to ship and
from above by helicopter.
